Chissa' come mai ?!

Which criteria are used in scientific studies to identify electrohypersensitivity?

Researchers from the Netherlands and from England reviewed 63 scientific publications dealing with elec- trohypersensitivity (EHS) in order to find out which criteria were applied in the studies to identify hypersensi- tivity to EMF in individuals. Despite heterogeneity, four criteria were predominantly used:
   
Self-report of being (hyper)sensitive to EMF
Attribution of non-specific physical symptoms to at least one EMF source
Absence of medical or psychiatric/psychological disorder capable of accounting for these symptoms
Symptoms should occur soon (up to 24 hours) after the individual perceives an exposure source or exposed area.
In addition, the researchers found that EHS was either attributed to various EMF sources or to one specific source. Experimental studies used a larger number of criteria than those of observational design and per- formed more frequently a medical examination or interview as prerequisite for inclusion of subjects. Consid- erable heterogeneity exists in the criteria used by the researchers in this field of research, due to explicit dif- ferences in their conceptual frameworks. Therefore, the authors call for further work to produce consensus criteria for research and for use in clinical practice. The development of an international protocol enabling a clearly defined case definition for EHS and a validated screening tool, with active involvement of medical practitioners, could be the right way, the authors conclude.
